PROJECT OVERVIEW

The research project for EDUC 8603 challenges students to apply what they are learning about educational research to the task of immersing themselves in the literature, evaluating it, and reporting findings to various constituents. This research project is divided into four discrete assignments requiring students (groups) to investigate and evaluate (at least) three reputable research studies. Objectively, the completion of each step will evidence a final presentation, in portfolio form, of the student’s (group’s) review of the research conducted for a particular area of educational interest. More importantly, however, the research project will provide evidence of the student’s (group’s) ability to discover, to interpret, to apply, and to report educational research findings relevant to one’s particular educational interests. The research project will account for seventy percent (70%) of the final grade.

The four assignments involved in the successful completion of the research project include:

ASSIGNMENT #1:  To Define the Area of Interest

ASSIGNMENT #2 To Conduct a Literature Review, Construct a Bibliography,
                              and Report the Problem Statement

ASSIGNMENT #3:   To Analyze Methodologies and Data-Collection Techniques

ASSIGNMENT #4:   To Report Results, Interpretation, and Conclusions

NOTES:

1.   Each assignment must conform to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.) (2009).

2.   Submit all assignments on the schedule provided on the syllabus.

3.   Assignments will be graded and returned by the following session.

4.   Assignment #1 may be resubmitted with Assignment #2 if the individual (group) desires an improved grade; the highest grade that can be achieved on resubmitted work is an 85%. Students are urged to learn APA style in Assignment #1 because Assignments #2 - #4 will not be regraded.

5.   Submit each assignment in a D-ring binder (a three inch "D" ring should suffice). Use separate dividers for each assignment, including a divider for the References and Appendix sections.

6.   (For cooperative learning groups) The grade assigned to each assignment is given to each member of the group.
