Course Rationale:

Instructional Leadership explores the paradox of supervising curriculum and instruction in American schools. While the instructional leader possesses expert knowledge of the teaching craft and staff development, this individual must act within a democratic framework to effect instructional improvement. Course materials will challenge students to complicate how they think about curriculum, teaching, and learning as well as how students might lead teachers to improve instructional programs and to guard against the temptation to use one’s authority in autocratic, manipulative, arbitrary, or coercive manners.
